Where to use ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501: penetrative waterproofing primer for concrete and masonry

ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 is a penetrative waterproofing primer, a single-component acrylate water barrier coat based on acrylic co-polymers in aqueous dispersion. It consolidates and standardises surface absorption on concrete, masonry, plaster boards and screeds while staying breathable. Use it as the primer before waterproofing coating systems, diluted with up to 20% water and applied by brush or spray.

    • Concrete & Masonry (Internal & External)

Consolidates the surface and evens out absorption before coating.

    • Cement, Lime, Gypsum & Plaster Boards

Standardises absorption so later coats bond more effectively.

    • Screeds

Applied by brush or spray at 4–5 sq.m per litre.

    • Damaged Roads & Highway Surfaces

Used as a penetrative primer on cleaned road surfaces.

    • Industrial Floorings

Reduces chemical ingress by 96% while staying breathable.

    • External Walls

Undercoat for plaster, paints and waterproof coating systems.

    • GEO Fabric & Fibre Mesh Surfaces

Mixed with cement and water, covering 3–4 sq.m per litre.

    • Pre-Coating for Waterproofing Systems

Re-coatable after 3–4 hours, ready for the next coat.

To seal porous concrete before coating, apply at 4–5 sq.m per litre by brush or spray, depending on porosity. Adhesion to the surface is above 1.5 N/mm², water absorption is nil at 1 day and chemical ingress falls by 96%. As a breathable concrete primer it transmits 30 gm/m²/24 hr of water vapour. It is touch dry in 2 hours at 25°C and comes in 1, 5 and 20 Ltrs packs. Dilute with up to 20% water and stir for 3–5 minutes before use.

Armstrong Chemicals supplies ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 to sites across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bengaluru, Kochi and Chennai.

Why ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 works

    • Goes into the surface

Ambient crosslinking technology and blocking sealers let it go into the surface and consolidate it, instead of only coating the top.

    • Blocks water, still breathes

Water absorption is nil at 1 day, yet it passes 30 gm/m²/24 hr of water vapour, so the surface stays breathable.

    • Strong grip for topcoats

Adhesion above 1.5 N/mm² gives plaster, waterproof coatings, tile adhesives and paints a sound surface to bond to.

Penetrative Water Barrier Primer · 96% Chemical Ingress Reduction

Blocks 96% of Chemical Ingress. Breathes. Bonds.

A penetrative acrylic co-polymer primer that uses ambient crosslinking technology to consolidate and seal concrete, masonry and screeds from within — reducing chemical ingress by 96%, maintaining water vapour breathability at 30 gm/m²/24hr, and delivering >1.5 N/mm² adhesion for subsequent waterproof coatings, plasters and tile adhesives.

    Why It Matters

Why Surface Primers Fail in Chemically Aggressive Environments

Standard surface primers coat the substrate without penetrating — leaving the underlying pore structure open to chemical attack, moisture and laitance. In roads, industrial floorings and chemical plant environments, this leads to rapid delamination and re-treatment cycles.

The ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 Advantage

A penetrative primer that crosslinks inside the substrate — consolidating and standardising surface absorption, reducing chemical ingress by 96% and achieving NIL water absorption at 1 day, while remaining breathable at 30 gm/m²/24hr.

96% Chemical Ingress Reduction — Quantified

96% reduction in chemical ingress is the specific technical figure from this brochure — not a general "chemical resistant" claim. Combined with NIL water absorption at 1 day and <1% at 7 days, ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 provides a genuine barrier, not just improved adhesion.

67% Solids — Dense Film, Deep Penetration

At 67% ± 2 solid content — significantly higher than typical acrylic primers — ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 deposits more solid material per application, consolidating the substrate and delivering a denser, more durable barrier film than lower-solids primers.

    Industrial & Infrastructure

Built for Industrial and Infrastructure Surfaces

    Roads & Pavements

Recommended for damaged road and highway surfaces where surface consolidation before repair or overlay is required.

    Industrial Floorings

Chemical resistance and surface standardisation for industrial flooring environments with chemical spillage and mechanical load exposure.

    Waterproofing Systems

Consolidates and standardises substrate absorption before applying waterproof coatings, tile adhesives, plasters and skim coats.

    Penetrative Protection From Within

96% chemical ingress reduction through ambient crosslinking — not just a surface coat.

    96% Chemical Ingress Reduction

Penetrative crosslinking reduces chemical ingress by 96% with NIL water absorption at 1 day and <1% at 7 days — a quantified barrier performance figure unique among Armstrong primers.

    Breathable — 30 gm/m²/24hr WVT

Water vapour transmission of 30 gm/m²/24hr ensures moisture can escape from the substrate — preventing blistering and delamination while blocking liquid water and chemical ingress.

67% Solids — Dense Penetrative Film

67% ± 2 solid content deposits significantly more material into the substrate per application than standard acrylic primers — consolidating treated surfaces and standardising absorption for subsequent coatings.

    5°C to 50°C — Widest Application Range

Applicable from 5°C to 50°C — the widest temperature range of any Armstrong primer, enabling application in cold weather, high-temperature industrial environments and tropical outdoor conditions.

    How to Use

    1

Ensure all surfaces are dry, sound and free from contamination — oil, grease, moss, algae, laitance, mould release oils, curing compounds and loose/decayed matter

    2

Clean by grit blasting, wire brushing and water jet cleaning — choose the method appropriate to the surface condition

    3

Where moss, algae or similar growth has occurred, treat with a biocide before cleaning

    4

For applications over existing base coatings, primers, GEO fabric or fibre mesh: clean dust with an air blower after the relative dry period of each coating or system

    5

Shake the ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 container before use

    6

Dilute with up to 20% water; stir well with slow-speed stirrer or paddle machine for 3–5 minutes

    7

Optional cement mix (for GEO fabric/fibre mesh): mix 1 litre of ROOFBOND BCS PRIME 501 + 20% water + 1 kg cement — apply as a penetrative coating; coverage becomes 3–4 sq.m per litre

    8

Apply over the cleaned surface by brush or spray

    9

Standard coverage: 4–5 sq.m per litre (porosity dependent)

    10

    Re-coatable after 3–4 hours
