Where to use ALSTRONG ZP 777: zinc rich primer for steel and iron

ALSTRONG ZP 777 is a zinc rich primer that also converts rust on steel and iron. It is highly penetrative, so it soaks into the rust, encapsulates it and grips the metal underneath. You apply it by brush or spray as a single coat, then finish with a rubber, acrylic, PU, epoxy or water dispersion topcoat.

    • Steel Structures & Fabrications

Brush or spray one coat on fabricated steel before the topcoat.

    • Iron Surfaces

Encapsulates rust on iron and bonds firmly to the metal.

    • Coastal & Industrial Environments

Protects steel against coastal air, industrial pollution and weathering.

    • Chemically Exposed Steel

Primes steel that faces chemical attack and aggressive corrosion.

    • Anti-Corrosion Primer Base Coat

Takes rubber, acrylic, PU, epoxy and water dispersion coatings on top.

    • Rust Conversion on Existing Steel

Penetrates existing rust and locks it under the primer film.

If you are working out how to stop rust on a steel structure, the figures are simple. One coat at 25–35 microns DFT covers 16.0 sq.m per litre at 25 microns and 11.4 sq.m per litre at 35 microns. As an anti corrosive primer for steel it is surface dry in 1 hour and hard dry in 12 hours at 30°C, with a light green matt finish. Wait at least 12 hours before overcoating, and check the surface is dry and clean first.

Armstrong Chemicals supplies ALSTRONG ZP 777 to sites across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bengaluru, Kochi and Chennai.

    Why It Works

Why Standard Paints Fail on Corroded Steel

Standard paints applied over rust don't stop corrosion — they seal moisture in, accelerating delamination and structural loss from underneath.

    The ALSTRONG ZP 777 Advantage

A zinc-rich primer that doesn't just coat rust — it penetrates and encapsulates it, then bonds tightly to the steel surface as a platform for any rubber, acrylic, PU or epoxy topcoat.

    Rust Encapsulation, Not Just Coverage

Highly penetrative rust converter and encapsulating coating for steel and iron — it bonds at the substrate level, not just the surface, so the protection starts where the corrosion does.

    Universal Topcoat Compatibility

Can be overcoated with rubber, acrylic, PU, epoxy and water dispersion coatings after 12 hours — a true base primer for any protective paint system.

Pairs with Armstrong topcoats like RAINPROOF PU 400, RAINSEAL RWC 902, and RAINSEAL 200.

    Built for Hostile Environments

Protects Steel Where Ordinary Paint Fails

    Industrial Pollution
Protects steel against aggressive chemical pollutants and industrial atmospheric exposure
    Coastal & High-Humidity
Performs in coastal environments with relative humidity up to 85% during application
    Chemical Attack
Zinc-rich formulation resists chemical attack and weathering conditions
    Engineered Anti-Corrosion

    Built to Protect Steel

A zinc-rich primer built for environments that destroy ordinary paint.

    Zinc-Rich Rust Encapsulation

Highly penetrative formulation converts and encapsulates rust on steel and iron — bonding at substrate level, not just surface level.

    Universal Topcoat Platform

Compatible with rubber, acrylic, PU, epoxy and water dispersion topcoats — a primer that works within any protective coating system.

    Industrial & Coastal Defence

Protects against aggressive corrosion, industrial pollution, coastal environments, chemical attacks, weathering and water.

    Brush or Spray Application

Suitable for both brush and spray application with a surface dry time of just 1 hour — minimal site downtime.

    How to Use

    1

Ensure surface is clean — remove all dirt, dust, oil and contaminants

    2

Check ambient conditions: RH <85%, substrate temp ≥ dew point +3°C and ≤50°C

    3

If settling is observed in the drum, stir with hand stirrer then power-driven stirrer until homogeneous

    4

Apply by brush or spray in a single coat at 25–35 microns DFT

    5

Allow to surface dry for 1 hour; full hard dry takes 12 hours at 30°C

    6

Overcoat after minimum 12 hours — ensure surface is dry and clean before applying topcoat

    7

Clean hoses, guns and spray equipment immediately after use — do not allow product to sit in equipment

    Packing & Storage

Available in 250ml, 500ml, 1L, 5L and 20L packs. Shelf life of at least 12 months @ 30°C in original, unopened packaging — store in a cool, dry place.

    Application Conditions & Safety

Flammable — flash point ≥ 30°C. Good ventilation is required in confined areas. Relative humidity must be below 85% — drying is retarded at higher humidity. Substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above dew point but not above 50°C. Maximum performance is achieved only after complete drying.

    Cleaning & Mixing

If settling is observed in the drum, loosen with a hand stirrer then a power-driven stirrer for homogeneous mixing. Do not allow product to remain in hoses, guns or spray equipment — clean all immediately after use.
