    Damp-Proof Course

    Waterproof course at plinth level

New houses at plinth stageCompound and boundary wallsGround-floor walls
    1. Set the DPC at plinth level, at least 150 mm above the highest finished ground or paving.
    2. Level the plinth top, remove loose mortar and laitance, and dampen it.
    3. Dose the mix: CONPROOF LW 200 at 200 ml, CONPROOF No. 1 at 100 ml or CONPROOF 500 at 500 ml per 50 kg bag, added to the gauging water. Keep the water low.
    4. Lay the course to full wall width: cement mortar 1:4 or concrete 1:2:4, at least 12 mm thick (IS 3067).
    5. Run it through every wall with no gaps; join levels with a vertical DPC.
    6. Compact, finish level and cure for at least 7 days.
    7. Where specified, apply two coats of RAINSEAL BMW 250 over the cured course.

Keep outside plaster, paving and garden levels below the DPC line. Anything that bridges it carries damp round it.

A continuous, dense course stops ground moisture rising into the walls, which prevents the damp band, salt and peeling paint that rising damp causes.
