Cool Roof Coating
Solar reflective coating that waterproofs in the same coat
Applications
Procedure
- Remove dust, moss, algae, oil and all loose or flaking coating by wire brushing and washing. Let the roof dry.
- Open roof cracks to a 4 to 5 mm V-groove and seal with ROOFEXSEAL PU 212. Expansion joints take ROOFEX-SEAL PS.
- Fill low spots and patch broken screed with ROOFCRETE AR 576 over a bond coat of ROOFBOND SBR 401, so the roof drains.
- Make good the coving and skirting so the coat can run round the corner.
- Apply the first coat of SUMMERSHIELD COOL 666 diluted with 10% water, by brush or sprayer.
- Recoat after 3 to 4 hours at 30°C. Two to three coats are recommended, and three coats meet the stated SRI. Apply each coat at right angles to the last.
- Coat the parapet walls as well for full heat resistance.
Important Suggestions
A reflective coat only reflects as well as it bonds and stays clean. Standing water leaves dirt rings that cut reflectivity. Over an existing waterproof coating, two coats of SUMMERSHIELD COOL 666 are generally recommended.
Why This Treatment?
Cool roof coatings reflect a large share of the sun's heat (87% stated for SUMMERSHIELD COOL 666), so the slab runs cooler, the room below is more comfortable and the slab moves less with temperature.
