    1. Dismantle existing fittings, tiles and the old filling down to the structural slab, stacking reusable materials and disposing of the rest.
    2. Clean the slab and chip off loose mortar.
    3. Grout the slab with RAPIDSTRONG GROUT ADMIX at 250 g per 50 kg cement, 2 to 4 grout points per sq.m.
    4. Fix the PVC outlet at the bottom of the sunken slab and grout every pipe sleeve with non-shrink grout. Seal joints with ROOFEXSEAL PU 212 and form the cove with ROOFBOND SBR 401 and CONPROOF LW 200.
    5. Dampen the surface, with no water standing, and apply two coats of ROOFCOAT FLEXI 100 mixed with cement, taken 2,000 mm up shower walls and at least 300 mm elsewhere.
    6. Pond-test before anything covers the membrane.
    7. Lay 1:4 waterproof cement mortar with CONPROOF 500 at 500 ml per 50 kg cement, about 20 mm thick, to protect the membrane.
    8. Lay the plumbing lines and seal CI pipe joints with ROOFCRETE AR 576 mixed with cement and fine sand. Build gully traps in 1:6 mortar plastered with CONPROOF 500.
    9. Fill the sunken area with lightweight concrete (1:5:10) with CONPROOF 500, or cinder, and lay 1:2:4 bed concrete with CONPROOF 500 at 50 mm.
    10. Fix tiles with TILEX 351 PLUS and TILEX SUPERLATEX 333, grout with TILEX TG S 1500 or TILEX EPOXY STAIN FREE 100, and fix the sanitaryware.

This treatment covers the full wet-area build-up from grouting through to tiling, so each layer protects the one below.

Bathrooms see water every day. A layered system of grouting, a flexible membrane, waterproof mortar and proper drainage keeps the slab dry and stops leaks into the flat below.
